I realized that in Romania, there is a tendency to use new cars and new engines, but there is a way to gain power, in a comperatively cheaper way:
There are Engine Families in Honda; B-series, K-series, F-series, D-series, H-series etc. Each Family of Engine has definite head-block connection that enables people to cross-breed the blocks and the heads.
Some famous ones are; B20orB18 non-vtec block with B16a2 or B18vtec heads. K24 block with K20a2 head.
The key word here is "THe bigger the better". For B16a2 engine, I have seen around 190hp max, which is very good for 1.6 lt engine. On the other hand, I have seen 260hp, with 2.1lt bored out sleeved B20 (from 99+ CRV) block with B16 head and heavy headwork off course. I personally owned a B16/B20 hybrid EK Civic, it was funniest to drive. (an example application: http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/lsvtec/lsvtec.php )
For the K20 users, I think there is a vast amount of improvement opportunity with K24 (from CRV or TSX-I am sure there are places in Germany with wrecked Honda's) blocks. K-series is a gifted series with a miracle called Hondata (just with Hondata-and exhausts, a K20a2 did a gain of 20hp on the dyno in front of me!). Provided that you have a dependable, capable mechanic (don't even think about it if you don't have a mechanic who knows what to do), the best thing to do with a EP3 type-r is to install K24 bottom, and enjoy the torque and the power (neighbourhood of 260-270hp, without custom pistons, camshafts etc).
There is just one question about hybrid engines, can anybody get it approved by the Governmental Agencies? Is it possible to have them approved? I personally, don't think it is possible due to restrictive EU norms (as far as I kno, in Belgium for examle, you can not put even a single exhaust tip). In Us, you can put engines, if it is newer than the chasis. In some other countries, you need an Expert Engineering firm to draw the project and approve it, and therefore it is possible to get it legal.
I'd like hear your opinions on the topic also.
