This is the Honda JADE, the production version of Beijing 2013′s Honda Concept S MPV. This one’s to be sold by Dongfeng Honda, and will be in showrooms in September 2013.
Honda says the Honda JADE was inspired by it’s namesake, a jade stone. It explains the green colour of the Auto Shanghai 2013 display car as well, though in reality I’m not sure how many will take up this particular shade at the showrooms.

Like the Honda CRIDER, the Honda JADE was designed for the Chinese market but unlike the fussy-looking Honda CRIDER, I can totally imagine the Honda JADE design being used for the next generation Honda Stream. It looks more ‘global car’ in it’s looks.

Honda Jade concept debuts on the Shanghai Auto Show

The Honda Jade concept MPV has debuted on the Shanghai Auto Show. The Honda Jade is almost production ready and design-wise based on the Honda Concept S (scroll down) that debuted on the 2012 Beijing Auto Show. The Honda Jade is based on the platform of the third generation Honda Stream.



The Honda Jade will be made in China by the Dongfeng-Honda joint venture, it will be launched on the Chinese car market in September. Power will come from 1.8 and 2.0 four-cylinder petrol engines, a hybrid might join the line-up later. Price will start just under 150.000 yuan.



The market for small MPV’s is growing in China, especially among young families who find a sedan too impractical and an SUV too big. A sharp-lines machine such as the Jade is likely to find buyers, especially since the anti-Japanese sentiments are slowly going away.

Cool Cars from 2013 Shanghai Auto Show: Honda Jade

Making its production-ready debut at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, the Honda Jade rolled out amid admiring throngs of admirers. I was one of them. Check out the Shanghai Auto Show (here). This is a slick people mover that has some real potential. Think of the Honda Jade as a Honda Civic stretched several inches and given a third row of seats. This puts the Honda Jade in the same company as the Mazda5 and small station wagons of our recent past.

Speaking of our recent past, the only quote I could find from Honda was, “The (Honda) Jade was designed to match the tastes of Chinese customers born in 1980s who are energetic and known for pursuing their dreams.” and ““Honda introduced the JADE, a mass-production vehicle based on the Concept S, which was also introduced at the Beijing Motor Show last year. Featuring an innovative design developed based on an image of jade stone with a beautiful exterior look and noble sense of quality within, the JADE will satisfy diverse customer needs from everyday use to holiday driving” – - Honda Motors

There is a pretty good chance that the Honda Jade will be exported throughout Asia and, possibly Europe. Despite my love for little people-movers, I sincerely doubt Honda will bring the Honda Jade to North America. Still, a little number like this with the right touches and a good EPA score could help Honda’s sales numbers here. I am positive it would be a hit here.

Honda’s Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co. Production Plant in China will begin production in September 2013.

Honda Jade MPV will hit the Chinese car market in September



The new and China-only Honda Jade MPV will be launched on the Chinese car market in September. The Honda Jade debuted last month on the Shanghai Auto Show. The Jade is design-wise based on the Honda Concept S that debuted on the 2012 Beijing Auto Show, and technically based on the platform of the third generation Honda Stream.



The sleek Honda Jade will be made in China by the Dongfeng-Honda joint venture. Our sources tell us the Shanghai concept resembles the real thing for 99%. The Honda Jade will be powered by 1.8 and 2.0 four-cylinder petrol engines, a hybrid might join the line-up later. Price for the cheapest 1.8 will start just under 150.000 yuan. Size: 4645/1775/1500, wheelbase is 2760.
