Three of a Kind: Honda Trio Named to Best Bet List

Honda’s commitment to customer satisfaction has paid off big time in the annual Best Bet ratings by The Car Book 2013, an honor roll of the vehicles that provide a winning combination of nine key factors: Performance in crash testing, safety features, rollover resistance, preventative maintenance, repair costs, warranty coverage, fuel economy, customer complaints and insurance costs.

Now, that’s a lot to take into consideration, but many Honda products excelled in the analysis. According to the experts at The Car Book, one of the nation’s oldest continuously published vehicle-buying resources, the automaker had three Best Bet prize-winners, all right in the heart of the marketplace:

2013 Honda Accord: Honda’s all-new midsize sedan was a Best Bet in the “intermediate” category, an achievement rivals like the Toyota Camry and Ford Fusion can’t match. The Accord was rated particularly highly for fuel efficiency, a reflection of how well its real-world numbers match its EPA line of 27 mpg city/36 mpg highway/30 mpg.

2013 Honda Odyssey: The only minivan to be named a Best Bet was the Odyssey, which was singled out for its low insurance and repair costs by The Car Book team. And remember, earlier this year, the Odyssey also showed off its long-term value proposition by winning a Residual Value award from ALG.

2013 Honda CR-V: After finishing the 2012 selling season as the No. 1 crossover in America, the CR-V is off to another fast start this year. Not only did it earn a Best Bet award, but it also was named a Best Value by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine and a Best Resale Value recognition from Kelley Blue Book.

Motoring: All-New Honda Accord Wins 2013 AJAC Canadian Car of the Year

Honda Canada kicked off the 40th annual Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS) last month with the impressive win of one of the country’s most coveted automotive industry awards—the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) Canadian Car of the Year for the all-new 2013 Honda Accord.

“Thank you to all the voting members of AJAC. It is an honour to have our all-new Accord recognized by so many of Canada’s most-respected journalists,” said Takashi Sekiguchi, president and CEO of Honda Canada Inc.

“The 2013 Accord was designed to once again raise the bar in the family car category and deliver a fun, roomy and efficient choice for families. We think Accord does exactly that and are pleased that AJAC does as well,” Sekiguchi said.

With all factors considered during four days of intense testing in October, many of Canada’s top automotive journalists voted on the country’s best new vehicles before arriving at their decision.

In the end, the all-new 2013 Honda Accord was the clear winner with its striking new design and new and improved technology.

As the most fuel efficient, most spacious and most fun-to-drive Accord ever built, the 2013 model features the all-new Earth Dreams™ powertrain technology.

The 2013 Accord is also available with the first North American application of Honda’s next-generation, 2.4-litre, direct- injected 4-cylinder engine pushing a shorter, sportier, yet more spacious and comfortable vehicle.

2013 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe First Small Cars to Achieve TOP SAFETY PICK+ Rating in IIHS Safety

The new 2013 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe have received the highest available safety rating of TOP SAFETY PICK+ from the Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This recognition makes the Civic Sedan and Coupe the first and only IIHS Small cars in the industry to earn a TOP SAFETY PICK+.

Honda leads all other brands in achieving TOP SAFETY PICK+ ratings with four models – Civic Sedan and Coupe, and Accord Sedan and Coupe. Further, for the 2013 model year, all Honda and Acura models tested1 by the IIHS have received a TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating.

"If you want a compact car with a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating, the 2013 Honda Civic is the only choice," said Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda. "We believe this is a distinct competitive advantage, especially as more and more consumers place a premium on crash rating performance."

The new Civic Sedan, equipped with the second generation of the Honda Advanced Compatibility Body Structure™ (ACE™II), is not only the first Small car to earn TOP SAFETY PICK+ in the industry, but also the first and only to earn the highest possible rating of GOOD on the IIHS' new small overlap frontal crash test (sometimes called a 'narrow offset' test). This aggressive test is designed to simulate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object such as a tree or utility pole at high speed. The ACE™II reinforced body structure found on the 2013 Civic further enhances frontal crash energy through a wider range of these offset and oblique collision scenarios.

Additional standard safety equipment on all Civic models include Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control; an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS); side curtain airbags; dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags; and driver and front passenger side airbags.

      Honda Safety Leadership
Honda has a long history of leadership in the development and application of advanced technologies and designs to enhance the safety of all road users, including automobile occupants, motorcycle riders, and pedestrians. The company operates two of the world's most sophisticated crash test facilities and is responsible for numerous pioneering efforts in the areas of crashworthiness, airbag technology, collision compatibility and pedestrian safety. This commitment to safety is rooted in Honda's goal
to be a company that society wants to exist, and it complements the company's leadership in reducing vehicle emissions, improving fuel efficiency and advancing alternatives to gasoline.

Honda CR-V and Odyssey Win "Best Cars For Families" Awards From U.S. News & World Report

CR-V named "Best Compact SUV for Families;" Odyssey named "Best Minivan for Families"

TORRANCE, CA--March 12, 2013: The 2013 Honda CR-V and the 2013 Honda Odyssey were both honored by U.S. News & World Report among its "Best Cars for Families." The efficient and capable CR-V was named "Best Compact SUV for Families" and the stylish up to 8-passenger Odyssey was named "Best Minivan for Families" among 2013 model year vehicles sold in the United States.

"If you're looking for a top safety-rated, fuel efficient, fun-to-drive family vehicle, you can't really go wrong with a Honda," said Mike Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Both the CR-V and the Odyssey exemplify 'family friendly' with top safety ratings, proven Honda quality and loads of smart features to keep the driver and all passengers comfortable and connected."

The "Best Cars for Families" methodology combines quality, size and family-friendly features into a composite score. Quality is measured using a weighted average of scores from the U.S. News rankings at the time the awards are published. The rankings compare cars on the basis of safety, reliability and a consensus of automotive critics' opinions. Size is based on a vehicle's seating capacity and interior space. For family-friendly features, the availability of features deemed to be helpful to families by U.S. News editors is factored in.

The 2013 Honda CR-V provides upscale styling, excellent fuel efficiency, and a host of standard convenience features, making it one of the most fun and functional compact SUVs in America. The CR-V is rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as a TOP SAFETY PICK and is distinguished by a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 5-star Overall Vehicle Score.1 Compact on the outside and roomy inside, the CR-V represents an unparalleled balance of size and capability in the entry SUV segment. With its car-like interior comfort, a smooth and quiet ride, plus innovative features, the versatile CR-V is a great fit for families or individuals with an active lifestyle.

The 2013 Honda Odyssey minivan continues to lead its class in fuel economy and safety ratings, while providing spacious accommodations for up to eight passengers and a refined and engaging driving experience. The Odyssey Touring is rated at a remarkable 28 mpg,2 the highest EPA highway fuel economy rating of any eight-passenger minivan. All Odyssey models are an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK, and the Odyssey has earned the best possible overall safety rating from NHTSA with a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score.1
Government 5-Star Safety Ratings are part of NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program ( Safer Car ). Model tested with standard side airbags (SABs). Vehicles tested under the new program cannot be compared to MY10 and earlier vehicles.

2 Based on 2013 EPA mileage ratings. Use for comparison purposes only. Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle.

2013 Civic Becomes First Top Safety Pick+ Among Small Cars

Honda’s award-winning approach to vehicle safety has achieved yet another milestone. The redesigned 2013 Honda Civic—both sedan and coupe models —recently became the first small cars in America to earn the enhanced Top Safety Pick+ recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). That means the two Civic models not only scored the highest possible grades in the IIHS’ traditional safety evaluations (for rollover protection as well as for side, rear and moderate-overlap frontal impacts); they also were awarded the same marks in the new small-overlap test, which analyzes occupant protection when a front corner of a vehicle strikes a relatively thin object, like a telephone pole.

“If you want a compact car with a Top Safety Pick+ rating, the 2013 Honda Civic is the only choice,” said Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda. “We believe this is a distinct competitive advantage, especially as more and more consumers place a premium on crash rating performance.”

With the Civic duo now joining the club, Honda is the only automaker in America to offer four different vehicles on the Top Safety Pick+ team—the all-new 2013 Honda Accord Sedan and coupe are members as well.

The Civic and Accord also debuted with two new safety measures from Honda, including the automaker’s next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE II) body structure. A key enhancement over the previous version: New front-end structures specifically designed to help manage crash energy during small-overlap front impacts. In addition, the two vehicle families also feature SmartVent technology that helps optimize inflation pressure from the standard side airbags.

          ====================================

2013 Honda CR-V and Odyssey Named ‘Best for Families’

Presented by U.S. News & World Report, the annual Best Cars for Families Awards honor vehicles “that offer the best combination of quality, space and family-friendly features.” The awards are based on a survey of expert opinions and reviews from across the country. As a result, this year’s winners—including the Honda CR-V and Honda Odyssey—are sure to appeal to an equally wide range of families.

According to U.S. News, helping matters is the fact that “the 2013 Honda CR-V shines with nimble handling, a spacious interior and a standard rearview camera.” Also coming in for praise are the CR-V’s “impressive safety and reliability ratings [that] make it a smart choice among affordable compact SUVs.”

As for the Odyssey, it was singled out for its comfortable seating and surprisingly roomy cabin. The publication noted that folks “appreciate how much cargo space there is and how easy it is to fold the third row to haul even more stuff.” Add in its “car-like performance” and “excellent” safety grades, and it’s easy to see why Honda’s award-winning minivan won its segment this year.

Capping off their family-friendly packages, both the CR-V and the Odyssey are also Top Safety Picks of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and five-star overall performers in safety testing from the government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

“If you’re looking for a top safety-rated, fuel efficient, fun-to-drive family vehicle, you can’t really go wrong with a Honda,” said Mike Accavitti, vice president of National Marketing Operations for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Both the CR-V and the Odyssey exemplify ‘family friendly’ with top safety ratings, proven Honda quality and loads of smart features to keep the driver and all passengers comfortable and connected.”

KBB 2013 Brand Image Awards has some obvious and oddball winners

The sixth edition of the Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards have crowned a wide range of winners – in a couple of cases the recipient of the laurels might say more about KBB users than they do about the actual winner. Compiled from the responses of more than 12,000 shoppers on KBB.com over the past year, there are 13 categories broken into non-luxury, luxury and truck segments "representing the combined wisdom of the American car-buying public."

The award categories have been revamped this year, with some dropping off, some new ones appearing and at least one other given a new term. What isn't surprising is that Honda won Most Trusted Brand for the second year running, Best Value Brand for the third year in a row and took Best Overall Brand, which wasn't on last year's list of awards.

On our own shores, in the non-luxury categories Chrysler got Most Refined Brand and Buick took Best Value Luxury Brand. Neither one of those marques won anything in last year's Brand Image Awards, while Cadillac, which won Best Interior Design Brand and Best Comfort Brand last year – those awards disappeared this year – went home without a single accolade.

Winners that made us go "Hmmm..." are Toyota for Best Overall Truck Brand and Mini for Best Performance Brand in the non-luxury segment. Last year's truck award was for the Most Rugged Truck Brand and was won by Ford; the switch to "overall" takes things in a completely different direction for KBB users, it seems. And Mini dominating non-luxury performance is something we'd like to hold some focus groups to find out more about.

Check out the press release below for all the winners and the details.

The 2013 Brand Image Awards, presented to the top brands in 13 categories, are based on consumer automotive perception data from Kelley Blue Book Market Intelligence's Brand Watch study. Brand Watch is an online brand and model perception tracking study tapping into 12,000+ in-market new-vehicle shoppers annually on Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com. The highly comprehensive Brand Watch study offers insight into in-market new-vehicle shoppers' perceptions of brands and models, including important factors driving their purchase decisions while they are in the midst of the shopping process. The Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards recognize automakers' outstanding achievements in creating and maintaining brand attributes that capture the attention and enthusiasm of the new-vehicle buying public. Award categories are calculated among luxury shoppers, non-luxury shoppers and truck shoppers.

"The Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards are unique because they reflect the opinions of actual in-market new-car shoppers, providing automakers with a glimpse into what potential customers really think of their brand and showcasing their perception strengths," said Hwei-Lin Oetken, vice president of market intelligence for Kelley Blue Book. "While other awards from KBB.com are based on data calculated by Kelley Blue Book experts, the information that comprises the Brand Image Awards comes directly from the opinions of thousands of new-car shoppers over the period of an entire year. The insights gleaned from the Brand Watch study can be an invaluable tool for automaker marketing teams and their agencies."

This marks the sixth consecutive year that Kelley Blue Book has presented auto manufacturers with the Brand Image Awards, and this year, Honda takes home the most trophies. Honda is named Best Overall Brand by non-luxury shoppers, which speaks to Honda's stellar reputation and brand leadership in the minds of consumers. Furthermore, Honda is awarded Most Trusted Brand for the second year in a row, and Best Value Brand for the third year running. Receiving consecutive awards in key categories like Trust and Value underscores that the positive attributes of the Honda brand continue to resonate with the new-car buying public.

Meanwhile, among non-luxury shoppers, MINI is a standout for Performance, while Ford leads for Car Styling, and Chrysler wins for Most Refined Brand. According to truck shoppers, Toyota is the Best Overall Truck Brand.

Among luxury shoppers, BMW takes the top spot as Best Overall Luxury Brand, and Porsche brings home two trophies for Performance and Car Styling. Domestic manufacturer Buick excels among luxury shoppers for Value, while Lexus leads for Trust, and Mercedes-Benz is viewed as Most Refined Luxury Brand.

"Some will say that perception is reality, and while we concede that image isn't everything, it is more than enough to get shoppers into the store, and that's half the battle for automakers and their dealers," said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com. "With standout vehicle lineups and positive consumer perception confirmed by empirical study, the winners of Kelley Blue Book's 2013 Brand Image Awards have secured enviable positions in the minds of car buyers."

KBB.com Editorial Comments About 2013 Brand Image Award Winners

2013 Porsche - Best Performance Luxury Brand
BMW wrested this trophy from Porsche a couple times, but this is essentially Stuttgart's award. Even when Porsche's entry isn't the fastest car in the class, it's always the winner in driving feel. And feel equals fun, which is the purest point of performance.

            2013 Mercedes-Benz - Most Refined Luxury Brand
KBB.com visitors who identify themselves as luxury-car shoppers -- the group who determined all our Luxury Brand awards -- have voted Mercedes-Benz as this year's Most Refined Luxury Brand. Refinement is harder to measure than performance or value, but you know it when you see it. And you really know it when you drive it.

2013 Porsche - Best Car Styling Luxury Brand
This is a fitting award for the maker of arguably the most iconic and enduring car design of all time, the 911. Even the newest Porsche, the Panamera, sports a unique but recognizable design that at once reinforces and expands Porsche's legendary mystique.

2013 Buick - Best Value Luxury Brand
With a brand and lineup that transcend mainstream without reaching all the way into the traditional luxury stratosphere, Buick is a nice way to step up in comfort and refinement while remaining mindful of the family budget.

2013 Lexus - Most Trusted Luxury Brand
With the most proven and celebrated record of dependability and reliability in the entire industry, it would only be a surprise if Lexus didn't win the award for Most Trusted Luxury Brand.

2013 BMW – Brand Image Awards: Best Overall Luxury Brand
BMW didn't win any of the individual Luxury Brand awards, but it takes home the title of Best Overall Luxury Brand on the strength of a well-rounded image that appeals to young and old, sporty and showy alike.

2013 Toyota - Best Overall Truck Brand
KBB.com visitors who identify themselves as truck shoppers have named Toyota this year's Best Overall Truck Brand. Cars can get you to work, but people depend on trucks to actually do the work. When livelihood is on the line, any brand synonymous with dependability and reliability has a real advantage.

2013 MINI - Best Performance Brand
When every car you make can be described as small and sporty, you have the inside track to our Best Performance Brand award. MINI keeps pumping out new variations on a theme, but never wavers one degree from its laser-like focus on fun.

2013 Chrysler - Most Refined Brand
The traditional luxury brand of non-luxury brands, Chrysler combines an air of confidence with a sense of flair. The result is a lineup and a brand that feels a class above their competitors.

2013 Ford - Best Car Styling Brand
Ford's new design language seems to work on every new vehicle that gets the treatment, and if anyone wants to call the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion and Escape the best-looking vehicles in their respective categories, we wouldn't argue. The gorgeous new Fusion, in fact, is our Best Redesigned Vehicle of 2013.

2013 Honda - Best Value Brand
Affordability, reliability and good resale value are key facets of new-car value, and Honda scores at or near the top in all three, earning from KBB.com visitors another Best Value Brand award.

2013 Honda - Most Trusted Brand
This is the second year we've asked visitors to name their Most Trusted Brand, and it's the second year in a row they've named Honda. With a reputation that precedes it and vehicles that seemingly never fail to deliver on the promise, Honda is like the perpetual motion machine of brand trust.

2013 Honda – Brand Image Awards: Best Overall Brand
We saved the biggest award for last, but after its wins in the Best Value Brand and Most Trusted Brand categories, Honda's win as Best Overall Brand among non-luxury shoppers hardly comes as a surprise. We admire the refined and reliable vehicles, but also the manner in which Honda promotes itself. You do too, apparently.

Motor Trend Declares the Acura ILX to Be a Winner

The auto experts at Motor Trend think the 2013 ILX is a solid, reliable option for drivers seeking an affordable luxury vehicle.

Chicago (I-Newswire) April 30, 2013 - The experts at Chicagoland Acura Dealers have expressed their affection for the 2013 Acura ILX for some time, and there are few things more validating than having critics at one of the leading auto magazines agree. After a long-term evaluation of the ILX, Motor Trend have nothing but praise to offer the luxury sedan.

Having driven the new ILX around LA, Motor Trend's Mike Floyd admitted that he had been getting comfortable behind the wheel of Acura's sedan, to the point that he started taking things about it for granted. Then he had to drive a fully-loaded Cadillac XTS Platinum for a weekend.

Floyd said that the XTS was “more than capable with a ton of room,” but when he got back in the driver's seat of his Acura, he was reminded just what he loved about the vehicle. The ILX is light, agile, and fun to drive and much easier to navigate the streets of LA in, parking and weaving in and out of traffic as necessary.

While he admits that comparing these two different vehicles is not incredibly fair, the fact is that Acura offers a luxury vehicle that can go toe-to-toe with a high-end Cadillac at a much more affordable price.

Another point of praise Floyd had for the ILX was with regard to fuel economy, coming right in line with the EPA estimates for the vehicle. Standard on the ILX is a 2.0L four-cylinder engine with 150 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque, and its range of amenities includes comfort options like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and conveniences such as Bluetooth connectivity and a USB/iPod audio interface.

Motor Trend declared that the ILX “delicately tows the line” between comfort and sport, encouraging Floyd to push toward the redline while also enjoying the luxury that Acura is known for.

Drivers looking to experience the ILX firsthand can find a Chicago Acura dealership and set up a test drive. With dealers located across the greater Chicago area, it's easier than ever to choose one of the world's leading affordable luxury vehicles.

The new 2013 Honda Civic Sedan has received the highest possible overall safety ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Japanese company announced today.

The automaker’s new compact recently earned the top 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score in the NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), and the Top Safety Pick+ and a top score of “Good” in the small overlap frontal collision test from the IIHS.

According to Honda, the Civic Sedan and Coupe are the first and only small cars to earn the IIHS’ highest safety rating the NTHSA’s 5-Star score. In addition, the 2013 Accord also achieved these ratings in the mid-size segment.

"Car shoppers cannot find a small car with higher overall safety ratings than the 2013 Honda Civic," said Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda. "Safety ratings leadership across product lines is a fundamental part of not only our strategic business plan, but also our philosophy as a company."

The Honda Civic sedan is equipped with the company’s next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure as well as several other safety features, including side curtain airbags, multiple-threshold front airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist and many more.

http://www.hondainthenews.com/honda-...straight-year/ Honda Rated No. 1 for Residual Value for Second Straight Year Backed by three individual segment winners, Honda was recently honored as the top-ranked mainstream brand in the 2014 ALG Residual Value Awards. Notably, this was the second year in a row that Honda claimed the prize, and a three-peat isn’t out of the question for 2015. After all, according to Eric Lyman, vice president of Editorial for ALG: “Honda used solid fundamentals to earn its second consecutive mainstream brand award. The brand’s lack of fleet, lowest-in-industry incentives and quality reputation make it a continual frontrunner in the battle for best residual values.” In the vanguard for Honda this year were: Honda Accord, with its second straight victory in the Midsize Car class Honda Odyssey, leading all Minivans in Residual Value for the third consecutive year Honda CR-V, claiming its first Residual Value Award in the Compact Utility Vehicle segment American Honda’s luxury division also was honored with a 2014 Residual Value Award for the 2014 Acura RDX. The vehicle repeated as the study’s top Premium Compact Utility Vehicle, with the Acura lineup rating No. 2 overall among premium brands. Further, while that Honda trio was being recognized for their ability to retain their value three years after purchase, four more Honda products were being honored for resale value by Kelley Blue Book. Per the KBB.com website, the 2014 Honda Accord, Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid, Civic Si and CR-V all earned Best Resale Value Awards this year. Which is no surprise to Michael Accavitti, senior vice president of automobile operations at American Honda, who said that: “Providing long-term value for our customers is a top priority at Honda. Honda’s commitment to retail sales leadership through top-quality, well-equipped vehicles is a major differentiator for our brand that will pay dividends to our customers for years to come.” Sources: http://www.hondanews.com/channels/ho...book-s-kbb-com http://www.hondanews.com/channels/co...-straight-year Written by Charles Krome. =================== http://green.autoblog.com/2013/11/20...-with-best-re/ KBB names 2014 Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid the PHEV with best resale value A number of automakers proudly touted their vehicles' inclusion on the 2013 edition of the Kelley Blue Book's Best Resale Value list this week. But only Honda can say (and did, of course) that the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid is the PHEV with the best resale value. Even though the car only went on sale in January 2013 and we don't expect too many to be available on the used market any time soon, KBB puts vehicles on the list that are "expected to maintain the greatest proportion of their original Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) after five years of ownership." It's a futures thing. The Accord PHEV was one of four Hondas on KBB's list – the others were the 2014 Honda CR-V (top ten finalist), the standard Accord (best mid-size car) and the 2014 Civic Si (best sporty compact car) – and there were many more from other automakers. You can read more over on Autoblog. This is the first year (we think) that KBB has had a special PHEV category in its best resale awards. Last year, the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid was named the best hybrid/alternative energy car. And the year before, the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid was named the best hybrid car. 2014 HONDA ACCORD, PLUG-IN HYBRID ACCORD, CIVIC SI AND CR-V NAMED 'BEST RESALE VALUE' VEHICLES BY KELLEY BLUE BOOK 18/11/13 from Honda American Honda received four Best Resale Value Awards from trusted vehicle valuation source Kelley Blue Book www.kbb.com. The 2014 Honda Accord, the all-new 2014 Plug-in Hybrid Accord the restyled 2014 Civic Si, each earned the top award in their respective segment for projected resale value after five years of ownership. Additionally, the 2014 Honda CR-V was honored as one of the overall Top 10 Best Resale Value vehicles in America. 2014 Honda Vehicles Honored with Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards 2014 Honda Accord – Best Resale Value: Mid-Size Car 2014 Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid – Best Resale Value: Plug-In Vehicle 2014 Honda Civic Si – Best Resale Value: Sporty Compact Car 2014 Honda CR-V – Best Resale Value: Top 10 "Honda vehicles are engineered to provide a fun-to-drive experience as well as overall value for the money," said Michael Accavitti, senior vice president of automobile operations at American Honda. "With a continued focus on quality, fuel efficiency and premium content, we have always believed that a Honda provides every buyer with added value, and we are honored to be recognized for our efforts by valuation leader Kelley Blue Book." Kelley Blue Book's Best Resale Value Awards are based on projections from the Kelley Blue Book® Official Residual Value Guide. These prestigious awards honor vehicles expected to maintain the greatest proportion of their original Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) after five years of ownership. Since depreciation (or loss of value) is typically a car buyer's primary expense during ownership, these awards are designed to help consumers make more informed car-buying decisions. "Honda earns three segment awards this year and a seat in the Top 10 with its impressive lineup," said Eric Ibara, director of residual consulting for Kelley Blue Book. "Repeating their category wins for the 2014 model year, Honda Accord, CR-V and Civic Si live up to its high expectations, continuing to dominate among competitors." L.A. Auto Show: 2014 Honda Accord wins Green Car of the Year

Honda rode its 2014 Accord lineup all the way to the Green Car of the Year award on Thursday morning at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
“With its efficient internal combustion, hybrid and plug-in choices, the 2014 Honda Accord delivers exactly what consumers are looking for today,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and Carsofchange.com. “It all comes together this year for the Accord in ways that speak to significant environmental performance built into a mainstream, volume model that’s a joy to drive.”
Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of automobile operations at American Honda, said the entire Accord lineup, led by the Accord Hybrid, "embodies the promise of the Honda brand to deliver both fun-to-drive enjoyment and outstanding fuel efficiency at the highest level."

This is the second time in three years Honda has won the award. The 2012 Civic Natural Gas took the prize two years ago.
Five models were nominated for the Green Car of the Year award: Audi A6 TDI, BMW 328d, Mazda3, Toyota Corolla and the Honda Accord, which is available in gas, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions.
PHOTOS: L.A. Auto Show model debuts
In a departure from previous years, no electric cars were nominated. Three hybrids, including the winning Ford Fusion, were up for the award last year, and two electric vehicles and a hybrid were nominated in 2011.
However, the hybrid plug-in version of Honda's popular sedan, which records a 46 highway mpg and a 47 city mpg, was part of the winning model. The plug-in gets the highest MPGe for a midsize sedan in the country, coming in at 115.
FULL COVERAGE: L.A. Auto Show 2013
John O'Dell, senior editor of Edmunds.com, said the winner reflected whether the judges were looking for a car with mass appeal or the most fuel-efficient car.
"You're going to sell a lot more Toyotas, Hondas and Mazda3s," O'Dell said.

But as a driver, he'd prefer to drive the diesel Audi or BMW, he added.
"Diesel just has a different feel, and they’re very fun to drive," O'Dell said. "And if you also get close to 40 miles per gallon for it, that’s also pretty good."
The A6 TDI gets 38 highway miles per gallon and the 328d gets 45. A diesel car has not won the award since 2009, when the Audi A3 TDI was honored.
Among other benefits of diesel cars, O'Dell says, is that maintenance for these cars is required less frequently than cars with gasoline engines, although the initial price and routine maintenance is more expensive on diesels.
The nominated cars also offered a glimpse into the future of the automotive industry, O'Dell said.
The Mazda3's SKYACTIV suite makes the car lighter and includes engine tuning that improves the car's fuel economy. The A6 TDI and the 328d offer start-stop technology, which turns off the car's engine when it comes to a full stop to save energy. By 2020, O'Dell said he predicts that 80% of cars sold will have start-stop technology.

As these options become more commonplace, they will become standard features in all cars, he said. "That's how stuff gets scaled in," he said. "Guys see it on a BMW and say 'Why can't I get it on my Corolla?' And ultimately, it gets down to the Corolla."

Popular super-mini wins Budget Car Category in Women’s World Car of the Year Awards 2014

International voting panel made up of female motoring writers from 15 countries

Further plaudits for Jazz ahead of all-new model set for release in 2015

Honda’s ever-popular Jazz super-mini has triumphed at the recent Women’s World Car of the Year Awards, pipping the Kia Soul to the post to win the Budget Car Category.

Judged by a panel of prolific female journalists from 15 countries, including nine based in Europe, the awards considered ten different criteria including design and function, style and appeal, comfort, storage, and drive quality. Additionally, specific to these awards, other elements considered by the judging panel included the ‘wow’ factor, sex appeal and value for money; factors which all of the judges felt to be important to female car buyers. Now in their fifth year, the awards, organised by New Zealand’s Women’s World magazine, recognise the best cars in six categories including best family car, sports car, luxury car, SUV, green car and budget car.

Sandy Myhre, CEO and founder of the Women’s World Car of the Year comments: “Honda can be very proud of this achievement. It is very difficult for any car to be on our shortlist, women motoring writers are very discerning and to win a category is a significant accolade.”

Currently available with a choice of two economical 1.2 and 1.4 i-VTEC petrol engines or Honda’s super-efficient hybrid IMA technology, the award comes ahead of the arrival of an all-new model Jazz due to go on sale in Summer 2015. As part of Honda’s ‘small series’ range, the third generation European Jazz will be built on the company’s global compact platform, retaining the centre fuel tank layout found in the current model, as well as the Civic and recently-announced HR-V. Combined with the Honda’s highly versatile Magic Seats®, this space-saving layout delivers genuine customer benefits in terms of versatility, interior practicality and storage solutions. Additionally the new European model will offer improved fuel economy and higher performance thanks to its new next-generation Earth Dreams Technology engine.
