Civic voted top car by women

The Honda Civic has received an award from the Women's World Car of the Year committee.
The award was presented to Honda at the Paris Motor Show 2012.

The Women's World Car of the Year is divided into four categories; Family Car, Luxury Car, Sports Car and Economy Car.
The Honda Civic was chosen as the winner for the Economy Car category with second and third places going to the Volkswagen UP and Ford Fiesta respectively.
The Honda Civic was selected from an initial entry list of 300 cars which were nominated by 20 women judges from 11 countries around the world.
The judging panel for the Women's Car of the Year assessed the Civic according to the criteria women consider when buying a car which include safety, value-for-money, aesthetic appearance, storage space, ease-of-driving, colour, sex appeal, environmental footprint and child friendliness.
The award coincides with Honda's recent announcement of new additions to Civic range, which include a new 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine, which will be available on the Civic later this year, a new wagon-style Civic model and a new Civic Type R in 2015. All of these new derivatives are for the European market.

Accord’s Earth Dreams Engines Join Ward’s ‘10 Best’ List

The powerplants that help motivate the all-new 2013 Accord have recently been accorded one of the industry’s top honors. Both the 2.4-liter I4 of the Accord Sport model and the Accord’s up-level V6—each featuring Honda’s high-efficiency Earth Dreams technology—were picked for the 2013 Ward’s 10 Best Engines team.

According to Tom Murphy, writing for Ward’s: “The clean-sheet I4 is stunningly efficient. Over the course of a 537-mile (864-km) test drive, two editors exceeded 33 mpg (7.1 L/100 km) in this generously proportioned sedan that gets up to speed with no problem thanks to 189 hp, ample low-end torque and a wonderful mid-range punch.”

Ward’s editors were equally impressed with the car’s new V6, which had some fairly strong family traditions to uphold; after all, its predecessor had been named to the Ward’s 10 Best list three times. The verdict on the re-engineered replacement: “WardsAuto editors say this engine ‘positively storms’ and ‘pulls like a freight train at hard throttle,’” wrote Murphy, who also noted that: “In our real-world evaluations, the Accord V6 topped 29 mpg (8.1 L/100 km) for several editors, unheard of for most any six-cylinder engine.”

“Honda is first and foremost a motor company, and the new Earth Dreams Technology engines once again assert Honda’s desire to lead the industry in powertrain efficiency while providing responsive power and fun for drivers,” added Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda. “Having both the 4-cylinder and the V6 from the 2013 Accord honored on Ward’s 10 Best Engines list shows that world-class powertrain technology doesn’t have to come at a premium price.”

CHRISTMAS TREAT FOR NEW HONDA CR-V AS IT'S CROWNED 4x4 OF THE YEAR
          21/12/12

If Santa is looking for a capable, reliable and award winning mode of transport this Christmas, he should get himself the new Honda CR-V. The British built sports utility vehicle (SUV) has scooped the prestigious '4x4 of the Year' honour from respected publication Total 4x4 Magazine. It's the new CR-V's first award win since arriving in dealerships only two months ago.

The competition was fierce and the magazine's test team pitted the Honda against several key rivals in the 'Medium SUV' segment. Sweeping them aside it took class honours, making it a contender for the overall 'best of the best' title... which it duly won.

It's an outstanding achievement for such a new vehicle, which is manufactured in the UK at Honda's state-of-the-art production facility in Swindon, Wilts.

Total 4x4 Magazine's testing process is comprehensive, ranging from interior quality, comfort and practicality to repeated drives of a set road route by different judges.

The publication's editor, Alan Kidd, commented: "Never before have there been so many likely candidates for the overall title. However, from the moment we started crawling around inside the CR-V, it was clear Honda had hit the jackpot. The quality of its interior is on a par with the best, and its flexibility is exceptional – and that was before we actually drove it."

He continued: "Seldom has a new 4x4 put such a big tick in so many boxes. It takes an awful lot to impress us these days. The new CR-V didn't just impress us – it made our jaws drop."

Dave Hodgetts, Managing Director of Honda (UK), was thrilled with the honour. "For the new CR-V to take its first award so soon after launch is a real festive treat for everyone and a fantastic way to end the year. We hope it will be the first of many."

Chrysler, Honda, Subaru Among IIHS's 13 Safest Cars Of 2013

Back in December, we told you about the winners (Honda) and losers (Toyota) in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's tougher frontal-crash tests. We also told you about the new IIHS designation, "Top Safety Pick+", which recognizes vehicles that perform especially well in crash tests.

Now, the IIHS has revealed the names of its Top Safety Pick+ vehicles for 2013. (By sheer coincidence, there are 13 of them.) The news is particularly good for Chrysler, Honda, and Subaru, each of which had at least two vehicles in the group.

              METHODOLOGY

The IIHS uses five tests to evaluate vehicles: two related to frontal crashes, one for side impact, one for rollovers, and one evaluation of how well seat and head restraints protect occupants from neck injuries in rear impacts. The organization scores a vehicle's performance on each test as "good", "acceptable", "marginal", or "poor".

To earn the title of IIHS Top Safety Pick, cars have to score a "good" on the moderate overlap frontal test, side impact test, rollover test, and rear-impact test. (Poor performance on the fifth test -- the small overlap frontal test -- has no bearing on Top Safety Pick status for now, largely because the test was introduced in 2012, giving automakers little time to prepare for it.)

To earn the title of IIHS Top Safety Pick+, vehicles have to score a "good" on four of the five tests and nothing less than "acceptable" on the fifth.

              WINNERS

The 13 vehicles that earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ include:

              Acura TL
              Chrysler 200 (four-door)
              Dodge Avenger
              Ford Fusion
              Honda Accord (two-door)
              Honda Accord (four-door)

              Kia Optima
              Nissan Altima (four-door)
              Subaru Legacy
              Subaru Outback
              Suzuki Kizashi
              Volkswagen Passat
              Volvo S60

Of course, the IIHS tests vehicles all year round, and the organization will likely reveal more Top Safety Pick+ winners in the coming months. We expect to see a few SUVs added to the list when the IIHS announces results for small SUVs and crossovers this spring.

If you're in the market for a new car and safety ranks among your top concerns, be sure to check out the complete list of 2013 high-scorers on the IIHS website. You'll find not only the 13 Top Safety Pick+ winners, but also 117 vehicles that earned the very respectable Top Safety Pick.

Detroit Auto Show 2013: Honda Ad Voted Best Car Commercial Of The Past 25 Years; Watch The Top 10 [VIDEOS]

DETROIT -- Honda (NYSE:HMC) was the big winner at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show’s special presentation that showcased and named the 10 best auto commercials from the past 25 years. The winning commercial was selected from more than 60 award-winning entries by a panel of more than 70 top advertising creatives and journalists.

The One Club, sponsors of the prestigious One Show awards, which recognize creative excellence in advertising, announced the top 10 automobile commercials from the past 25 years at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, according to a statement from Businesswire. The top award for excellence in car commercials went to the Japanese automaker’s 2004 ad “Grrr,” which was honored as the best automobile advertisement of the past 25 years.

Honda also had the second best commercial, “Cog,” from 2003. You can view videos of the top 10 car commercials of the past 25 years below.

The “Grr” ad highlighted the importance of clean diesel engines by having a cartoon dirty diesel engine pollute a magical world.

“It does show us what clean diesel can actually look like,” said Vic Foust of Channel 7 Action News in Detroit and the host of the awards ceremony at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

A wide range of car commercials were recognized at the event, including advertisements featuring rap star and son of Detroit Eminem -- and Michigan native Madonna.

Volkswagen’s (PINK:VLKAY) 2011 Super Bowl commercial, “The Force,” took third place. The ad was viewed more than 55 times online and featured a kid dressed up as Darth Vader using The Force to turn on the headlights of the 2012 Passat. In actuality, the child’s father activated the lights remotely from his home without his son recognizing it.

BMW (ETR:BMW) had its 2011 ad, “The Hire,” recognized as the fourth best car ad of the past 25 years. The ad featured Madonna and actor Clive Owen.

Saturn took the fifth spot with its 2002 ad “Sheet Metal.” The commercial humanized the production of automobiles.

Chrysler’s Detroit-centric ad from 2011, “Born of Fire,” was voted as the sixth best car commercial of the past 25 years. The spot featured Eminem driving the Chrysler 200 along with shots of the Motor City with a voice-over proclaiming, “This isn’t New York City.

“This is the Motor City and this is what we do,” Eminem responds, pulling up to a theater as his song, “Lose Yourself,” played in the background.

Nissan (PINK:NSANY) took the seventh spot with its 1997 commercial, titled “Toys.” With Eddie Van Halen guitar riffs playing in the background, a male toy doll goes to pick up his girlfriend in a convertible. As he honks his car outside her doll house, a more attractive women is enthralled with the car and he picks her up instead.

Volkswagen returned to the top 10, grabbing both the eighth and ninth place best car commercial awards. “Lamp Post” from 1998 and “Milky Way” from 1999 took eighth and ninth place, respectively.

Chrysler/Jeep rounded out the top 10 with “Snow Covered.” The ad debuted during the 1994 Olympics and showed a Jeep driving underneath snow-capped mountains.

Civic, CR-V Pick up Polk Loyalty Awards

With a record number of folks buying both the Honda Civic and the Honda CR-V last year, it’s obvious that each vehicle is attracting a steady stream of new customers as time goes by. But what’s just as important is that drivers who already own Civics and CR-Vs keep coming back for more as well. As a result, the two hot-selling Honda vehicles recently earned Polk Automotive Loyalty Awards for “superior performance in owner retention.”

“Honda’s wins this year are a great example of their commitment to owner loyalty,” said Brad Smith, director of Polk’s Loyalty Management Practice. “Retaining customers in a competitive marketplace is extremely challenging and Honda’s product offerings, combined with their customer engagement strategies, have resulted in high rates of repurchase loyalty.”

In addition, Honda also was singled out for its appeal to Hispanic buyers; with recognition as the top brand in 2012 for “Hispanic Market Loyalty to Make,” Honda has now won that acclaim for two straight years—and three times overall.

Of course, it certainly helps that the fun-to-drive Civic and CR-V offer some of the highest values and best fuel-economy marks in their segments, as well as strong evidence of the automaker’s commitment to continuous improvement.

“Honda has never taken owner loyalty lightly, and it’s been an honor to see so many owners return for a new Honda during the last year,” said Tom Peyton, assistant vice president of Advertising and Marketing at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Winning three awards from Polk in these hard-fought segments validates Honda’s commitment to high vehicle quality and long-term customer satisfaction.”

Five Honda Vehicles Earn Recognition on ACEEE's List of 'Greenest' and 'Greener' Vehicles of 2013

New Delhi, Jan. 18 -- Five Honda vehicles have earned recognition from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) for superior environmental performance, including three Honda vehicles that have been named among the ACEEE's "greenest vehicles of 2013." In the annual ACEEE's "Green Book Online"ranking of environmentally responsible vehicles, the zero emissions, 100-percent electric Honda Fit EV placed second on the "greenest" list and was joined by two Honda hybrid models - the Insight and Civic Hybrid - on the ACEEE's list of the 12 most environmentally responsible, "greenest" vehicles available to the public.

The fun and fuel-efficient subcompact Honda Fit and the Honda Odyssey minivan were also named as "greener choices of 2013" within their respective classes. This is the 15th straight year that multiple Honda vehicles have been named in the top 12.

"The recognition by ACEEE of Honda's alternative fuel and fuel-efficient vehicles over the past 15 years further validates our commitment to create and deliver more energy-efficient, low emissions mobility solutions for society," said Steven Center, vice president of the Environmental Business Development Office at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Honda's vision for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which is reflected in our environmental slogan of "Blue Skies for our Children," inspires us to lead and innovate in every aspect of our operations, from our product engineering and manufacturing practices to our upstream sales and service activities."

The ACEEE ranking system uses a singular measure that incorporates fuel economy and health-related pollution impacts plus global warming and upstream emissions. All vehicles are analyzed and given a "Green Score" which is used to rank each vehicle's total environmental performance, including a list of the 12 "greenest" and 12 "meanest" vehicles along with a ranking of greenest vehicles by segment.

The Honda Fit EV is part of Honda's diverse and growing portfolio of advanced alternative-fuel and fuel-efficient vehicles and has an EPA combined mile-per-gallon-equivalency rating of 118 MPGe1. Based on the popular five-door, five-passenger Fit and Fit Sport, the 100-percent electric Fit EV features a 20-kilowatt-hour (kWh) Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery and a compact 92-kilowatt (123 horsepower) AC synchronous electric motor that produced 189 ft-lb of motor torque. This efficient powertrain is teamed with a fully independent suspension and a driver-selectable 3-mode drive system. The result is a fun-to-drive EV with an EPA combined city/highway driving range rating of 82 miles1.

When connected to a 240-volt circuit, the Fit EV battery can be recharged (from a low charge indicator illumination point2) in less than three hours. When connected to a charging device, charging can be monitored, scheduled, started or stopped by an included Fit EV interactive remote control, by an available smartphone application, or by any web-enabled device, such as a laptop or tablet PC.

The Fit EV is available for lease ($389/month or three years) in select markets in California and Oregon, and will be launching in select Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey and New York markets in the spring.

                        Honda Trio Among America’s Greenest

Honda once again offers some of the greenest vehicle in the country—according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), which recently named three Honda products to its Greenest Vehicles of 2013 list:

Honda Fit EV—With an EPA-certified all-electric driving range of 82 miles, the Fit EV delivers efficiency grades of 132 MPGe city/105 MPGe highway/118 MPGe combined. And remember, since it runs solely on electricity, Honda’s high-efficiency hatchback delivers all those advantages without producing any tailpipe emissions at all.

Honda Civic Hybrid—The hybrid version of Honda’s award-winning compact already was capable of 44 mpg in all phases of the EPA testing regimen as an all-new 2012 model, and now it will get significantly upgraded to match the rest of the Civic lineup for 2013.

Honda Insight—The least expensive hybrid in America—with an MSRP that opens at $18,500—is capable of posting an EPA line of 41 mpg city/44 mpg highway/42 mpg combined.

In addition to this tree-friendly trio, the Honda Odyssey and conventionally powered Honda Fit also were lauded by the ACEEE as “greener choices” in their individual segments. The former is the most fuel-efficient minivan in America, with EPA marks as high as 19 mpg city/28 mpg highway/22 mpg combined, while the latter rings up a fuel-economy score of up to 28 mpg city/35 mpg highway/31 combined.

“The recognition by ACEEE of Honda’s alternative fuel and fuel-efficient vehicles over the past 15 years further validates our commitment to create and deliver more energy-efficient, low emissions mobility solutions for society,” said Steven Center, vice president of the Environmental Business Development Office at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Honda’s vision for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which is reflected in our environmental slogan of “Blue Skies for our Children,” inspires us to lead and innovate in every aspect of our operations, from our product engineering and manufacturing practices to our upstream sales and service activities.”

ASEAN NCAP first phase results released for eight models tested – Ford Fiesta and Honda City get 5 stars

The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) released the results of the first phase of the ASEAN New Car Assessment Programme (ASEAN NCAP) at an open day held at its PC3 lab in Ayer Molek, Melaka yesterday. Eight car models were subjected to an offset frontal collision test at a closing speed of 64 km/h, yielding the following safety ratings:

Ford Fiesta LX Ti-VCT Auto sedan built 2012, MY 2011 – Adult: 5 stars, Child: 66%, Airbags: 7
                          Honda City Grade S built 2012, MY 2012 – Adult: 5 stars, Child: 81%, Airbags: 2
                          Toyota Vios 1.5J MT built 2012, MY 2012 – Adult: 4 stars, Child: 48%, Airbags: 2
                          Nissan March E MT built 2012, MY 2012 – Adult: 4 stars, Child: 48%, Airbags: 1
                          Proton Saga FLX+ Standard built 2013, MY 2013 – Adult: 3 stars, Child: 58%, Airbags: 2
Perodua Myvi SX built 2012, MY 2011 – Adult: 3 stars, Child: 54%, Airbags: 2
                          Hyundai i10 1.1 Epsilon built 2012, MY 2008 – Adult: 2 stars, Child: 48%, Airbags: 2
Proton Saga Standard built 2012, MY 2008 – Adult: 1 star, Child: 49%, Airbags: 1

The cars were tested over a period beginning November 15, 2012 and ending January 29, 2013. All of them are built in Malaysia, save for the Ford Fiesta and Nissan March, which are produced in Thailand. To be eligible for a five-star rating, a vehicle must have at least two airbags, electronic stability control and a seatbelt reminder, or it will only qualify for a maximum of four stars. Note that ‘MY’ above denotes the safety package introduction year.

No doubt you’re wondering why there are two Proton Sagas in the results list. The one-star car (base-spec, single airbag) was tested in December 2012; the three-star car, which was tested earlier this month, is fitted with the latest safety package that includes twin airbags, which will be standard across the range by February or March, according to Proton. It will be called the FLX+.

A bit about the test conditions – it’s based on the 40% overlap front impact crash test regulation of the World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations (ECE: Reg. 94). Two Hybrid III 50th percentile adult male dummies are placed in the front seats, while two P3 and P1.5 (numbers indicate ages in years) child dummies are secured with a Child Restraint System (CRS) in the back seats. The test car then hits a crushable aluminium barrier at 64 km/h and the outcome is analysed.

The frontal occupant protection (adult) rating is derived like so: injury levels on body regions are recorded through sensors and accumulated, then a ‘modifier’ is introduced – this takes real-world situations into account and points are deducted accordingly to result in the final score, which then falls within its rating category.

The percentage-based child assessment result is based on the CRS used in the test as well as the injury levels recorded; being defined as “the level of protection for the child occupant by using the stated CRS model in that car with specified (available) CRS attachment method (for instance, ISOFIX, top tether or seatbelt only). It is therefore important that the respective CRS attachment methods and brands used are made known:

Honda City (81%) – P3 (ISOFIX and top tether, Britax Duo Plus), P1.5 (ISOFIX, Britax Baby Safe Plus SHR II and Baby Safe ISOFIX base)

Ford Fiesta (66%) – P3 (ISOFIX and seatbelt, Britax Duo Plus), P1.5 (ISOFIX, Britax Baby Safe Plus SHR II and Baby Safe ISOFIX base)
Proton Saga FLX+ (58%) – P3 (seatbelt and top tether, Britax Duo Plus), P1.5 (seatbelt and top tether, Britax Duo Plus)
Perodua Myvi (54%) – P3 (seatbelt, Britax Duo Plus), P1.5 (seatbelt, Britax Baby Safe Plus SHR II)
Proton Saga (49%) – P3 (seatbelt, Britax Duo Plus), P1.5 (seatbelt, Britax Duo Plus)
Hyundai i10 (48%) – P3 (seatbelt, Britax Duo Plus), P1.5 (seatbelt, Britax Baby Safe Plus SHR II)
Nissan March (48%) – P3 (seatbelt, Britax Duo Plus), P1.5 (seatbelt, Britax Baby Safe Plus SHR II)
Toyota Vios (48%) – P3 (seatbelt, Britax Duo Plus), P1.5 (seatbelt, Britax Baby Safe Plus SHR II)

MIROS is keen to point out that where the collision tests are concerned, the damage to the dummies (and the correlating injuries sustained by occupants) is more important than the damage to the car. So, a car which looks on the surface to be heavily deformed after the crash may not necessarily receive a low safety rating – in fact the opposite can be true, especially when one considers crumple zones and other impact-absorbing structures.

The second phase of ASEAN NCAP will involve side impact testing as per ECE: Reg. 95, and is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2013, with sponsored tests allowed.

A step in the right direction towards safer cars for the ASEAN region then, it seems. Accordingly, the event also saw the MIROS PC3 lab being awarded the title of “First Full-Scale Crash Test Laboratory” by the Malaysia Book of Records.

At the time of writing, video clips and high-res images of the crash tests have not yet been released by MIROS, but we’re told video clips at the point of impact should be made available in time. At this juncture, I’d like to apologise for the lack of a picture of the Fiesta’s interior – out of all the cars there I just had to miss this one; it is much regretted.

In interior, accentul este pus pe calitate. Totul se imbina in mod armonios, intr-o eleganta desavarsita. Comenzile sunt bine plasate, usor de manevrat. In plus, bordul lasa impresia de spatiu. Tavanul transparent ofera o luminozitate placuta.

Ea figureaza in mod regulat in anchetele privind aprecierile consumatorilor din toate cele patru colturi ale lumii.

Honda Accord sedan wins AJAC Car of the Year

The academy awards of the Canadian car business rolled out early Thursday morning at the media preview to the 2013 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto.

While there was no red carpet and obviously less glitz, the winner of the top honour is nonetheless now a star: the 2013 Honda Accord deservedly takes home the title of overall 2013 Canadian Car of the Year, a designation bestowed upon the sedan by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada, whose members evaluated and voted for the Accord after days of testing last fall.

The Accord beat out the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT and the 2013 Porsche Boxster for the top prize. Last year’s winner was the Hyundai Elantra sedan.

The Accord now collects bragging rights and marketing potential, but also says to the consumer looking for new wheels that this is one of the very best vehicles to drive and own today. The top three vehicles had already been whittled from a field of 11 other category winners — all of which became eligible to win the Car of the Year designation after winning at AJAC’s annual Testfest in October, when about 80 leading auto writers from across the country gathered to test drive and evaluate 60 2013 models coming to market. Ford won four categories at Testfest, while Hyundai and Porsche each took two, and GM, Honda and Mazda grabbed one each after all the votes were tabulated in the annual event.

“It is a great pleasure to accept this award,” said Takashi Sekiguchi, president and CEO of Honda Canada. “The Honda Accord truly does excel in every way.”

Equally as honourable as Car of the Year, however, is the trophy for overall utility vehicle of the year, which this year went to the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. The Santa Fe beat out the Ford Escape 1.6L EcoBoost.

“It has more significance for us winning for us with Sante Fe," said Steve Kelleher, president and CEO of Hyundai Canada. The Santa Fe, he said “was the start of building our company where we are today.”

The best new design award, which can always be a bit of a wild card (last year the Hyundai Veloster somehow won over the stunning Jaguar XKR-S), was an interesting race this year between two models that each carries enormous significance for their respective brands. But it was the Porsche 911 Carrera S that edged out Cadillac’s attractive new ATS to win AJAC’s Best New Design award.

AJAC’s best new technology award for 2013 went to GM for its front-centre air bag.

The car (and utility) of the year awards are the result of almost 2,000 individual road tests conducted over four days in October 2012 at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. After every road test, each journalist scored the vehicle on several key aspects, resulting in some 40,000 data points that were then compiled by KPMG.

Natural Resources Canada also handed out its ecoEnergy Vehicles Award, giving trophies to Ford, Mazda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Smart and Tesla for its Model S electric car.

Honda’s ECO Assist Honored as Top Green Car Technology

A key enabler of high fuel-economy marks throughout the Honda lineup—the automaker’s ECO Assist feature—has been named to the Top 10 Green Car Technology List for 2013. The annual recognition program is presented by the Green Car Journal and was created to honor the new technologies that are helping to create the next generation of environmentally friendly automobiles. Which is certainly the case for ECO Assist.
Available in many of the brand’s most popular and efficient models, ECO Assist actually provides drivers with two ways to squeeze the most mileage from their Hondas. First, the system uses instrument-panel graphics to “coach” operators into driving more efficiently; then, for enhanced fuel-economy performance, drivers also can engage an ECON button that retunes important vehicle systems for optimum efficiency.
“Honda’s ECO Assist system was selected as a Green Car Technology Award finalist for its innate ability to help drivers enhance their fuel efficiency,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal. “In an era of increased demands on environmental performance from consumers and government alike, we wanted to highlight the innovative technologies like ECO Assist that make their incredible achievements possible.”
“Honda developed the driver guidance and driver feedback functions of ECO Assist to help drivers improve their fuel economy, and in turn, to also benefit our environment,” added Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics at American Honda. “The visual nature of the technology is intended to help drivers improve their efficient driving skills by making it a more fun and rewarding experience.”

Current Honda vehicles with ECO Assist include:

                              • Honda CR-V, boasting a fuel-economy line of 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway/26 mpg combined
                              • Honda Accord, capable of reaching 27 mpg city/36 mpg highway/30 mpg combined
                              • Honda Civic, with EPA grades of up to 29 mpg city/41 mpg highway/33 mpg combined

Honda Safety Tech Earns Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval

After poring over more than 1,500 new products, the scientists and engineers of the Good Housekeeping Research Institute have chosen Honda’s LaneWatch blind-spot display as the only automotive winner of a 2013 Very Innovative Product Award.
The unique LaneWatch feature adds another layer of peace of mind to Honda’s blind-spot warning system by specifically helping drivers locate objects in the blind spot on the passenger side of the vehicle. It works by leveraging a tiny camera mounted on the right-side exterior mirror of the vehicle that activates when drivers engage the right-side turn signal (or press a button located on the turn-signal stalk). When this happens, the camera sends a view of the right-hand blind-spot area to the eight-inch color display screen located on the dashboard.
Thanks to LaneWatch, drivers enjoy a field of view about four times wider than without the system, and also benefit from integrated reference lines to help judge distances.
“LaneWatch is an intuitive visibility technology that represents the sort of innovation that consumers have come to expect from Honda,” said Mike Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Automotive products don’t often win Good Housekeeping’s VIP awards, and that makes it even sweeter to have LaneWatch listed among the best new consumer products of 2013.”
LaneWatch is currently available on two award-winning members of the Honda lineup: The all-new 2013 Honda Accord, which received the new, enhanced Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the refreshed 2013 Honda Crosstour, the same nameplate that won the Midsize Crossover/SUV segment in the most recent J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study.

Honda and Acura Recognized with Eight Prominent Awards for Best Residual Value

TORONTO, Feb. 13, 2013 /CNW/ - Honda Canada today kicked off the 40th annual Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS) in an impressive way by winning eight different awards for its Honda and Acura brands from ALG and Canadian Black Book - all of which are testament to the quality, reliability and value that both the Honda and Acura brands deliver to Canadian consumers.
"Receiving these awards from ALG and Canadian Black Book for our most popular vehicles as well as our brands, truly reflects our commitment to providing consumers with a quality product with the best possible value available," said Dave Gardner, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Honda Canada Inc. "We are committed to building on this recognition and continuously strive to achieve the same success throughout our entire lineup."

                              ALG Awards

ALG's Residual Value Awards honour the vehicles that are forecast to retain the highest percentage of MSRP after a three-year period for luxury brands and a four-year period for mainstream brands. Award recipients are chosen after a careful evaluation of vehicle criteria, including segment competition, historical vehicle performance and industry trends. This year's awards are based on 2013 model year vehicles. Awards are given in 22 vehicle segment categories and two brand categories (Mainstream and Premium). This year's winners include:

                              • Mainstream Brand - Honda
                              • Premium Brand - Acura
                              • Sub-Compact Car - Honda Fit
                              • Midsize Car - Honda Accord
                              • Minivan - Honda Odyssey
                              • Compact Utility Vehicle - Honda CR-V
                              • Premium Compact Utility Vehicle - Acura RDX

                              Canadian Black Book Awards

Canadian Black Book's "Best Retained Value Awards" are handed out in 19 categories, given to those vehicles which retained the greatest percentage of their original MSRP over the past four years (since 2009). In their 8th year, CBB's awards guide consumers who are looking for vehicles that hold their value best, thereby reducing the total cost of vehicle ownership...a critical consideration when purchasing a vehicle.

                              • Sub-Compact Car - Honda Fit
                              • Minivan - Honda Odyssey (runner-up)

In 2010, to meet the increasing needs of consumers looking to make better-informed purchase decisions on new and used vehicles, CBB launched a consumer web site. Featuring listings and exclusive vehicle trade-in and future value calculators, www.canadianblackbook.com has had more than 11 million Canadians log over 100 million page views since launch.
